child adopted from ukraine

These country updates bring you the most current and up-to-date information from our program coordinators. One way of keeping you informed of what is going on in the country.

February 2010

An adoptive family is scheduled for an appointment at SDAPRC in early February. We wish them a safe and successful trip. This program remains open and is actively seeking new families. Families who are open to a child 6 years or older are strongly encouraged to consider this program. Ukraine has opportunities for a Waiting Child adoption, contact Tania or Angela for more information.

January 2010

Exciting news from Ukraine! Soon there will be a national database of children waiting for forever families. This database will be similar to what is in place in Peru and China. This is great for families interested in adopting from Eastern Europe.

One family returned home after completing their adoption in Ukraine in time to spend their first Christmas together as a family. This program is open and is actively seeking families to apply. Many children are waiting for forever families in Ukraine and just need you. The Ukraine adoption program is excellent for those interested in adopting an older child who has received excellent care. These children tend to adjust very well to their forever families and we have many families who would like to talk to you about their experience.

Families who have completed their adoptions from Ukraine, or are in the process of adopting, are encouraged to attend the Father Frost Party that will be held in Greensboro on January 16, 2010.
If you are able to attend, please contact Helen Nixon at 336-275-9660 or by email at: hmn@carolinaadoption.org.

December 2009

Will you consider an older waiting child from Ukraine? Many families have been satisfied with the adoption of their child from this country. The orphanage care is exceptional and children coming to the US with their adoptive families seem to adjust very well. CAS has several reference families willing to talk about their experience. If you think the adoption of an older child is for you then give us a call, the children are waiting.

On November 3, 2009 the SDAPRC informed the U.S. Embassy in Kiev that it was suspending the issuances of referrals for adoptive parents to visit Ukrainian orphanages due to increased incidence of H1N1 in Ukraine. Adoptive parents would not be allowed to visit orphanages to meet their prospective adoptive children as of November 3, 2009. These measures were to remain in effect until measures taken by the Ukrainian Government were lifted. The SDAPRC was scheduled to keep all pre-scheduled appointments and families were still going to be able to choose children from the data base, but these families would not be able to visit children in the orphanage. Foreign families would have the option of cancelling their SDAPRC appointments. These appointments would be re-scheduled as soon as the Ukrainian government’s temporary measures have ended.

November 2009

This program remains an excellent option for families who are interested in adopting school-aged children. If you would like to speak with a family who adopted an older child and have them share their experience with you, please contact Tania Griasnow.
