Keeping Kids Home
CAS is for permanency for children, with our first preference being to have children remain with their biological family. The Keeping Kids Home program in Vladimir, Russia supports this effort. Please read about the families available for sponsorship. The sponsorships are only $50 a month with a one year commitment. Such a low cost to keep a family together, would you like to sponsor?

Warm Blanket Project
Warm Blankets are delivered to the orphans in Gyumri! Everyone celebrated as the blankets and New Year gifts were delivered. The generous contribution from an adoptive parent made this wonderful gift possible!

Children from the Gyumri orphanage in Armenia are in great need of your help! There are 88 children at the orphanage in this economically disadvantaged area between the ages of 4-18. There are a variety of ways in which you can help these children that are left behind.
Winter shoes have been promised and are ordered but there are many other items that these children need including:
- Diapers/Pullups (large size)
- Feminine hygiene products
- School supplies
- Cleaning supplies
- 2 computers
- Learning software
- Head lice shampoo

*It is preferred that these items be purchased in Armenia.
There are several children that are need of medical attention at the Gyumri orphanage. CAS is currently looking at all possibilities for these children in need. For more information on how you can help these poor children please contact Julie at jag@carolinaadoption.org.
Carolina Adoption Special Needs Fund
Carolina
Adoption created the Special Needs Fund to assist financially-
challenged,
qualified families who are seeking to adopt children with special challenges including older children, sibling groups and children
with special medical challenges. The funds are usually applied to
the Carolina Adoption service fee.
Grants may be made in amounts varying
from $500 to $1,500 depending on the individual case and the availability
of funds. Your tax-deductible contribution to the Carolina Adoption
Services Special Needs Fund enables families who may lack necessary
funds to be united with special needs children and sibling sets
that desperately need families.
Donations Help:
- Children to be united with permanent loving
families.
- Children who need surgery or medical support to
have the chance to be adopted.
- Children with special challenges to get the care and
nurturing they need.
- Older children to become contributing members of society.
- Sibling sets to stay together and to be adopted by
forever families.
- Families who are almost able to afford adoption to
have the necessary means to bring a special needs child, older
child, or sibling set into their family.
The support you give, combined with the
support of many others will make these dreams a reality for families
and waiting children.
Azerbaijan
Nutrition for the children left behind in Azerbaijan is an ongoing concern. Funds donated to orphanages are often used for supplemental food programs to provide additional nutrition for children in orphanages .Carolina Adoption encourages families who are traveling to pick up their child to take as many bags of donations with them as possible. Please see the list of suggestions for travel.
China
Although Carolina Adoption does not have ongoing humanitarian aid projects in China, we recommend that families who would like to make donations to benefit children left behind in China look into the Half the Sky Foundation. Half the Sky was founded by adoptive parents in 1998. Their purpose is to “enrich the lives and enhance the prospects for the babies and children in China who still wait to be adopted, and for those who will spend their childhoods in orphanages.” They have programs in early childhood education, personalized learning and infant nurture programs in Chinese welfare institutions to provide the children with stimulation, individual attention, and an active learning environment. Georgia
CAS has been actively involved in a vast
number of humanitarian efforts in the past. Activities have included medical missions, orphanage donations and renovations, training for social workers, food and medical supplies. Continued support for this country is needed.
Guatemala

In January 2006 Carolina Adoption Services staff traveled to
Guatemala to distribute funds collected for the victims of the
mudslides. The $2,000 went to purchase rice, beans,
bottled water, dry milk powder, toothbrushes, candy and
toys for the children and other supplies for survivors of the
mudslides.
Children and adults alike were delighted with the deliveries
of food staples and treats for the children. To see more

Moldova
Moldova Scholars Program
In Moldova, as well as most other
Eastern European countries, children age out of the orphanage system
and enter the larger community without the necessary skills to provide
for themselves. These youths often engage in illegal or illicit
activities and are especially prone to depression and suicide.
In 2000 CAS created an orphan sponsorship
program that provides university or vocational training to qualified
Moldovan orphans who possess the talent and motivation to obtain
an advanced education.
The current group of sponsored scholars,
pictured below, includes young people studying law, economics, bookkeeping,
construction, dressmaking and tailoring, transportation, food production,
medicine, pharmacy, cooking, agriculture, automobile
mechanics,
teaching and journalism. For $66.67 per month,
you can provide food, clothing, transportation, shelter and educational
materials.

Payment may be made annually, semi-annually
or quarterly. Your donation is fully tax deductible and greatly
appreciated by these young men and women.
The life-changing impact of sponsorship cannot be emphasized enough—it
gives these deserving students hope and a sense of worth and gives
the Republic of Moldova a chance to retain its most valuable resource,
its young adults.
Students in the program prepare a newsletter about their activities.
Peru
School Uniforms & Supplies
Public schools in Peru are free,
however to attend the school, each child must have their own school
uniform, sweat suit, shoes, tennis shoes, books and school supplies
or they will be dismissed after the first month of classes. The cost for
these supplies is about $150 per student per year.
Russia
Shuja Orphanage Bedding Project from December 2005
In late December 2005 the Humanitarian Aid Fund replaced all the baby bedding in the Shuja orphanage in the Ivanovo region of Russia.
The fund spent $4,600 to replace 30 cribs along with new mattresses and bedding sets for each crib.
The adoption facilitator in the region arranged the purchase and delivery of all the items and took the photos of the new bedding arriving at the orphanage.
We continue to look for opportunities to help the children in Russia. If you are interested in helping contact Julie Glandt at (336) 275-9660.
Ukraine
Donations earmarked for Ukraine often
go toward the upkeep of orphanages. Funds are usually carried over
by hand by our liaison who travels to Ukraine twice a year. The
process of hand-delivering funds saves on excessive shipping costs
while insuring that the funds reach the correct destination.
Ukrainian orphanages are often inundated
with clothing and toys for children, but they prefer cash donations
because they can be pooled together to purchase larger items that
the orphanage might need.
When families travel to Ukraine to
adopt, they may want to ask the orphanage staff what they need and
then go and purchase it themselves in Ukraine.
It usually works out well to have
liaison bring over donations, that way she can see what the orphanage
needs and can also make sure that they followed through with securing
and maintaining previous donations.
Vietnam

Since 2003, Carolina Adoption has
partnered with Children of Vietnam to provide nutritional supplements
to two orphanages near DaNang: Hoa Mai Orphanage and Tam Ky Newborn
Orphanage.
Together these facilities are home
to about 100 children.
The nutritional program focuses on:
- Providing supplementary food packages that include staples
such as milk, rice and fish
- Providing vitamin tablets or syrup, depending on the
child's age
- Providing the children with shoes
- Combating parasite infestation, which interferes with
good nutrition, by offering semi-annual medication
The oversight of the program is coordinated
with local health care providers. A donation of $62
will cover one child for an entire year.
As with any donation to CAS Humanitarian
funds, please designate the desired fund recipient on your check.
